Grading
Students must achieve a minimum cumulative score of 70% to pass this course. Course grades are determined from assignments and activities including homework, projects, quizzes, exams, and presentations.

Lvl.1
The response does not meaningfully engage with the relevant theories, concepts, or strategies.
Viewpoints and interpretations are unclear or absent.
The response does not identify any future learning opportunities.
Limited (0–59)
Lvl.2
The response reflects little consideration or personalization of the relevant theories, concepts, or strategies.
Viewpoints and interpretations may be missing, inappropriate, or poorly developed.
There is minimal synthesis of the ideas presented.
Frequent spelling and grammatical errors suggest that basic editing tools (e.g., spell check/grammar check) were not used.
Emerging (60–69)
Lvl.3
The response reflects minimal but noticeable consideration and personalization of the theories, concepts, or strategies presented.
Viewpoints and interpretations are present but may contain flawed or weak arguments.
There is some synthesis of the ideas presented, though connections may be superficial or incomplete.
A few spelling and grammatical errors are present but do not significantly impede understanding.
Developing (70–79)
Lvl.4
The response reflects clear consideration and some personalization of the theories, concepts, or strategies presented.
Most viewpoints and interpretations are appropriate and occasionally insightful.
The response demonstrates a fair level of synthesis, making generally coherent connections among ideas.

Exemplary (90–100)
Attendance Policy
Because this course prepares students for duties as Fire Inspectors, consistent attendance is expected and required.
Excused absences – Students are permitted excused absences totaling no more than 10% of the course (maximum 4.5 hours). The instructor is the sole authority in determining whether an absence is excused and may assign supplemental work to make up for missed class time.
Unexcused absences – The instructor is the sole authority in determining whether an absence is unexcused (e.g., “no call, no show”). The instructor has no obligation to allow make-up work for missed assignments, quizzes, or exams, but may do so at their discretion.
Failure to meet attendance expectations may impact successful completion of the course.
